Facebook’s New Name: How Will it Impact Hot Tub and Swimming Pool Marketing?
Facebook business name on computer screen

Science fiction isn’t completely outside of my wheelhouse. I’m familiar with the ways of the Force, I could pick Dr. Strange out of a lineup, and I even giggled when a friend joked about his newborn looking like a Kree. For what it’s worth, I know all of the above because I live with my husband and two teenage boys (my entertainment interests fall more along the lines of Hallmark movies and crime fiction novels). After Facebook’s CEO announced the company will change its name to Meta, science fiction came to the forefront of blogs across the Internet. The new name signals that virtual reality will become an actual reality for the social media giant.

What Hot Tub and Swimming Pool Companies Should Know about Meta

I love a good conspiracy theory, and there are tons of them out there as to why Facebook would make such a drastic change. But Facebook (Meta) is a publicly-traded company that is ultimately responsible for its bottom line. According to Facebook.com, “The metaverse will feel like a hybrid of today’s online social experiences, sometimes expanded into three dimensions or projected into the physical world. It will let you share immersive experiences with other people even when you can’t be together — and do things together you couldn’t do in the physical world.”

This isn’t a half-baked publicity stunt to outsmart the social media police. It’s a platform that will normalize alternate realities.

Augmented Reality for the Metaverse

Augmented reality is an area that, frankly, the hot tub and swimming pool industry is way behind on. Up until now, the target audience for a swimming pool, and especially a hot tub, isn’t one who is also passionate about virtual reality. But that is changing. Millennials are in their 40s now. Yes, you read that right… millennials have aches and pains and trouble sleeping and they’re established in their careers to a point where they can own a hot tub. The time to start incorporating augmented reality into your hot tub and swimming pool marketing on Facebook is now.

Where do you start? Swimming pool and hot tub manufacturers can utilize augmented reality to promote their product lines. However, there’s no rule that says this level of technology has to be manufacturer-driven! If a hot tub or swimming pool business is interested in augmented reality, we can help. It’s possible to get several businesses together to share the cost of launching an augmented reality project. (And endless bragging rights for being the first to do so.) Like it or not, alternative reality platforms are here to stay. The companies that embrace that will “live long and prosper.”

Whether you’re comfortable with technology or not, it’s here to stay. And as the earth continues to move around the sun, technology will become more and more integrated with our daily lives. That’s why companies like The Get Smart Group exist… to come alongside you as your marketing partner… “to infinity and beyond.”
