The 3 Easiest Ways to Improve Your SEO

Man with notebook learns how to improve seo

Search engine optimization. If you’re running a small business and handle digital marketing, you may get tired of hearing that term over and over. “Your content needs to be optimized” and “Your SEO needs to be better if you want to get hot tub leads” are just things you don’t want to hear anymore. You understand that getting your business to appear in search engines is important, but you just don’t have the time to worry about whether your SEO is perfect. Save some time and improve your content with the 3 easiest ways to improve your SEO.

Break Up Your Text

How many times have you googled something, saw a wall of text, and immediately left the page? No one wants to feel like they’re reading a textbook when they’re just scrolling through websites on their phone. Breaking up your text is a super-easy way to improve your SEO because you don’t really have to do too much to your text! Try breaking up your text by:

  • using plentiful subheadings (be sure to use header formatting)
  • adding links (to pages on your own site or someone else’s)
  • adding images or gifs to break up the text (with alt text)
  • writing shorter paragraphs that are easy to scan

Breaking up your text will both help improve your SEO and your site visitors’ experience. They’ll be able to find what they’re looking for much faster, and stay engaged with your site longer.

Add Alt Text to Your Images

Okay, we’re kind of cheating because we also included this with our first tip, but adding alt text is super important in improving your SEO, and it takes no time at all, so it deserves its own section.

Alt text is basically just a description of an image. This is what appears when your connection is bad and the website you’re visiting won’t load all of the way, and also what is read for people using screen readers for the visually impaired. Sometimes this just says “image” or “download (1).png”, and sometimes it’s a full description. You want to shoot for a full description of the image. Don’t think too hard about it; just write it like you’re describing the image to someone sitting next to you, and work your keywords into the alt text. Adding keywords here will improve your SEO, as long as they make sense in context.

Make Your Content Readable

You may not realize it, but the content on your website may not be easily readable for large audiences. Between short attention spans and average education level, many people will only read content at a 5th- to 8th-grade level. Your website is not the place to show off your industry knowledge and jargon; save that for when they come to your showroom. Your website is the place to just give your readers basic information that will bring them in.

If you’re not sure if your content is readable, try a free service like Hemingway App. Hemingway App will tell you exactly what you need to do to make your content more readable, making it a super-easy way to improve your SEO.
